SKIN AND HAIR COLOR...WHAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU?
We'll help guide you to choose the skin tone and hair color that's best for you.
We offer 18 different skin tones for our prosthetics, with the option of mixing colors. If none of our 18 skin tones are an exact match for you, then we offer the option of mixing two colors to create an all new custom skin tone...this opens up the possibilities to an almost endless number of skin tones, which means a greater chance of finding the perfect skin tone for you.
Our skin tones are all mixed here at our lab, which means tighter quality control...our skin tones are always mixed to match our original colors. When ordering skin tone pigments from outside labs, color batches can differ from shipment ot shipment...this does not happen when we have total control of the pigment mixing. This means much more accurate color matching each time you order...whether its 6 months or 6 years from now...we'll always have your color.
About Skin Tones
▶︎ How can I get the best match to my skin tone?
The best way to get the most accurate match is to choose our Silicone Color Samples (shown above). When choosing this option, you will select 6 skin tones from our online color chart (shown above). We will make the color samples you choose in silicone and mail them to you. You simply hold the color to your skin and choose the one that best matches your own.
▶︎ What part of the body should I use as reference when choosing my skin tone?
We always recommend the lower abdomen or the inner part of your upper thigh...these area see less sun and are most lilely a much closer match to your genital area.
▶︎ Should I choose a color that matches my skin tone exactly?
The genitals are typically a bit darker than the rest of the skin on your body...you should typically choose a color that is a shade or two darker for best results. If you are choosing a prosthetic without hand punched hair, the tab ideally shoul match your actual skin tone.
▶︎ Will my prosthetic be the exact skin color I choose from the color chart or skin samples?
The color will be close, but not exact. The silicone samples we provide are the base color we tint the prosthetic. When the prosthetic is painted, we layer many colors to create the realistic, translucent skin look...these color variations can slightly alter the base skin tone.
Q & A - How to get the best match
We offer two types of hand-punched hair....synthetic and human. Synthetic hair is known as kanekalon, an acrylic fiber that is a bit coarse and feels and looks pretty close to actual pubic hair. Synthetic hair has a tendency to tangle easily, and needs special care when washing or styling...it can also break rather easily if pulled too hard. Human hair is hair that is typically collected or donated for realistic (and rather expensive) wigs...usually for cancer patients or for hollywood films. Human hair is much softer than sythetic hair, and can be washed and styled normally without the need for special treatment. It is typically more expensive, however it will last much longer that synthetic hair.
Synthetic hair is typically available in more colors, however human hair colors tend to look more natural.
*Please note, adding hair to the prosthetic will slightly thicken the attachment tab.
About Hand Punched Hair
▶︎ Should I choose synthetic or human hair?
The choice to pick either synthetic or human comes down to two main factors....price and longevity. Synthetic hair is a bit more affordable, however it does not last as long as human hair. Human hair is more expensive, however it will stand the test of time. If you plan on keeping your prosthetic for a long time, then human hair is probably your best choice.
▶︎ How can I get the best match to my hair color?
The hair on your body does not alwys match the hair on your head...arm and leg hair can be lighter (usually from being exposed to the sun), while chest and pubic hair can be darker. We would recommend choosing a hair color that is closest to the hair in your genital area or lower abdomen. If you are trying to blend the prosthetic hair into your stomach hair then going with a color closest to that would be your best option.
▶︎ Should I choose a color that matches my hair color exactly?
See above question.
▶︎ How do I take care of my hand punched hair?
Synthetic hair should be carefully brushed to avoid tangling. If washing, we recommend spraying with a warm solution of shampoo/conditioner and pat dry. Human hair can be washed with shampoo normally and rubbed dry with a towel. Brush out when finshed drying.
Q & A - How to get the best match
Our Silicone Color Samples are the best way to get the most accurate skin tone match* when choosing your prosthetic. Simply purchase our Silicone Color Samples package and choose 6 skin tones from our color chart that you feel would be closest to your own skin tone. We will mail these 6 silicone samples to you. When received, simply hold the silicone colors up to your skin (preferably the inner thigh or lower abdominal area), and choose the color that best matches your own. We recommend going slightly darker if you are not sure (genitals are typically darker than the rest of the skin).
Our Silicone Color Samples can be purchased on any ftm product page.
*Please note that the Silicone Color Samples are made using the base colors we use to tint the prosthetics...they may not represent the final painted prosthetic color.
